The Alamo Drafthouse had a midnight showing of the Goonies on Friday night with “live Pirate entertainment” and a free Baby Ruth candy bar with every ticket. Despite having to wait an hour scrunched together in a stairwell w/ several hundred people in poor air conditioning because the previous movie was late getting out (Mr. Sinus showing of Karate Kid), it was worth every bit of my $5 ticket. The entertainment was an all pirate band from here in Austin (some were fooled by their British accents, I know the truth) who REALLY enjoy being in character. Every time they said “are” (as in “are you ready for a real rock show”) it was pronounced “aaarrrrrrr”. I had a great time - I am never one to pass up Goonies, candy bars and Pirate entertainment individually, but who could resist all three at once?!
