CNN’s analysis of exit poll data shows ‘moral values’ was the NUMBER ONE concern by 22% of the voters. Think about that. One FIFTH of the voters thought moral issues (gay and lesbian rights, abortion, etc.) were more important than the war in Iraq, terrorism or the economy. This made me angry on Wednesday (see post below), but today it just makes me sad. How is it that some of my best friends are thought of as inferior and LESS of a person in the eyes of more than half the country? That out of what can only be described as an irrational fear and misunderstanding, they don’t deserve the same rights as me? It boggles my mind.

I suppose we just have to hope that it’ll continue to be an issue until it’s not anymore. Five years ago, gay marriage wasn’t on most people’s radar - it certainly wasn’t on mine. Think of how far we’ve come since segregation in the 1950’s. I have to trust if we keep looking forward, we’ll keep getting better.
