A homecoming tradition in which boys dress like girls and vice versa in a tiny Texas school district won’t be held Wednesday after a parent complained about what she regarded as the event’s homosexual overtones. Full story.

I can’t decide if this article makes me want to laugh, cry or scream. This has been a tradition for YEARS, and while the woman who lodged the complaint seems downright dim, the rest of people in the town seem ok. I mean, the tradition doesn’t seem to have turned the previous generations into legions of cross dressers, so why all the fear?

For the record, my dad has always had hair longer than mine and my mother once tried to prove women could do anything men could - including ‘writing their name in the snow’. According to witnesses, she was ‘like a little crab out there hoppin’ around.’ Seriously - my parents are pretty open-minded and I think I turned out ok. I’m a lot less afraid and better off for it.
