I went with Lisa on Sunday afternoon to an event called the ‘Empty Bowl Project‘ hosted by the Clay Ways. A $15 donation to the Capital Area Food Bank got you a neat piece of art, live music and your choice soup and bread from local restaurants. The line was several hundred people deep when we arrived, but moved surprisingly quick. We shuffled through a walkway around all the tables, TONS of choices, and then taken to wash our bowls and head outside for the soup. Lisa and I were trying to juggle our bowls, soup, silverware and purses, and a volunteer showed up out of nowhere to help us carry out things. As soon as we sat down, another person showed up with two paper cups of water. For as many people as supported the event, they did a great job of making everyone feel very welcome and appreciated for attending. I imagine they met their donation expectations, but I hope they blew it out of the water.
