In case you haven’t heard, Google has rolled out a new chat feature inside Gmail - the idea being that if you have email open all day (like many of us do), as well as IM (ditto), why not wrap the two features together. I’m hella curious over here, but according to Google “We’ve started rolling this out to all Gmail accounts, so yours should have it soon.” I’m apparently not one of the lucky ones. All day yesterday and today my girlfriends and I have been on this big email thread, and one by one they’ve been writing “I’VE GOT IT!” “ME TOO!” “HEY! THERE IT IS!”, but not me. I’m just sitting by… patiently waiting in silent protest, about to switch back to Yahoo because Google hates me.

UPDATE (02/15/06) - I FINALLY got Google chat yesterday. I think it’s a little ironic that it happened on Valentine’s day - trying to suck up to me, Google? Well, it worked. A little. Although, as my friend, Christine, predicted, I’d built it up so much that I was a little underwhelmed once I actually played with it, but I’m still happy to have it. Mainly it’s convenient to talk to people who can’t install their own IM programs at work, or to know that I can IM even if I’m away from my own computer. I guess we’ll see. It’s different, and that’s what Google’s going for.
