Happy (day after) Valentines Day!
This is kind of a take it or leave holiday for me, depending on the year. The last two years I kind of left it, so it was nice to celebrate this year. Jef sent me flowers at work (they smell so pretty today), and we went to dinner at Roy’s downtown. When I mention their name, I usually get a lot of “That sounds familiar” and then I say it’s the place w/ the ‘Hawaiian Fusion” cuisine and then everyone goes “Oooohhhhhhhhh right.” They have a billboard on I-35 and it’s a memorable tagline, because what exactly IS Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine? Freaking awesome, let me tell you. It was a prix fix menu (which I’d never had before and had to ask questions that were probably silly, but hey! I didn’t know!) that we started at 10pm (9:30 reservations and they were about 30 minutes behind) and didn’t finish until almost midnight. Their food is exceptional on a normal day, let alone with a special occasion menu. I did my best to savor every bite, loving each flavor and combination. It was unreal. A copy of our menu is below - not to brag, we NEVER do stuff like this, but to encourage you to go there if you ever get the chance. Roy’s has locations in other cities around the country and it’s definitely one of my favorites for special occasions. I love food.

Jef - “Ula” Hawaiian Spiny Lobster Tortellini, Wilted Spinach & Saffron Lobster Emulsion

Ummm…. just curious. Did you whoop out your camera at the restaurant, or is the dessert photo from their web site? :-) Sounds yummy!

Oh heck yeah. I even had to make special room for it in my small, fancy purse - good thing it’s small. Just be thankful I only took pictures of the dessert.

As soon as you said Roy’s, I immediately thought of that billboard. Guess it must work!
I included this post in Austinist’s best of the blogs this week.
