Jury Duty
I had jury duty this morning. I thought it was just jury *selection*, but I’d filled out the profiling type forms via Travis County’s iJury (btw, enough w/ the i’s and e’s. You’re online, we get it). I ended up in a courtroom w/ 11 of my peers who’d all thought to bring books, so I got stuck w/ the Newsweek from November. I’m all caught up on Hurricane Katrina. The judge came in an hour later and told us all the cases had decided to settle, so we were dismissed. He seemed disappointed. He also told us that Texas is the only state that allows you to have a trial with a jury for a Class B misdemeanor (traffic violations, etc.), which makes me think even if we saw cases they’d be a whole lot of nothing exciting.
OH! And did you know that you get paid $6 a DAY for serving? You get extra for certain cases, so you can make a maximum of $46 for FOUR days of service. I had no idea. I ended up checking the box to donate my $6 to the Child Welfare service, which makes me feel like my hour was well spent.
