Have I mentioned lately that I love having a yard?

The previous owners either had landscapers, or a heck of a hobby, because there’s a lot going on in the yard. Different kids of trees, shrubs, cactus, vines, etc.. I’ve found some neat things. I especially like that they chose trees and plants that flower at different times of the year. Every time I’m sad when something stops blooming, something else perks up. Nice going, people!

I don’t have that kind of patience yet. I just went to Home Depot and picked out things with pretty pictures on the labels and went to town with my spoon tools. Live and learn, I guess, because I’ve since learned about plants that will and, more importantly, WON’T grow in Texas. Every single bulb grew to nearly two feet, and then their poor little stalks burned before they had a chance to bloom.

Then…

I discovered succulents. I’m fascinated. Inspired by You Grow Girl, I even planted a little “succulent container” in the bulb graveyard this afternoon. I love it. It needs a little gravel or something, but aren’t they crazy looking? There are a million varieties, they’ll grow like crazy in the Texas sun.

The best part? They were only $3 each!
