Postive Reinforcement
Lucy is pretty good about chewing her toys. She should be, she has them stockpiled all over the house for quick access. Ball? I keep that behind the plant stand. Bone? Oh, I keep that under Kristin’s desk. Anyway. We got home late the other night, and moments before I fell happily into bed, I saw white and blue stuff scattered on the floor. Sigh. The white bits were a styrofoam peanuts in teeny, tiny snowy peices. I had no idea what the blue stuff was, it was just little bits of twisted plastic. I cleaned some of it up and left the rest for the morning. It wasn’t until I was about to walk out the door to work the next morning that I saw the sad, blue victim. It was the CLICKER we used to TRAIN Lucy*. Oh, sweet irony! It must have clicked the whole time she was chewing it. “I’m the best dog EV-ER!”
* Clicker training is the process of training an animal using a conditioned reinforcer, which indicates to the animal the precise behavior that was correct.

Awesome! That is so funny. Guess she took care of that BS, eh? :-)
