Not that I need one, but birthdays are one more reason I love the Internet.

My birthday is this weekend and I’ve gotten three emails (and a hand written note) from several local business’ with well wishes and some decent coupons. How nice! Including, but not limited to, a complimentary entree at one of my favorite restaurants, a $5 gift card to DSW, the best bargain shoe store ever, and a coupon for 50% off (yes that’s half) any full spa treatment at my dentist.

(I’m debating whether to keep talking about my birthday here or to stop and explain why my dentist has spa treatments.)

Jef and I are going to San Antonio on Saturday for a little ‘mini-break’ and then we’re having dinner w/ friends on Sunday. I had been feeling kind of blah about my birthday, but now that it’s coming together, I’m starting to look forward to it all.

I’ve been feeling a bit sentimental about Austin and my friends this week, and remembered one of the best things about my birthday last year. We were in a rut at my old job w/ planning birthdays and ended up always just doing the fake meeting in a conference room with cake thing. Surprise! I asked Zach to try and get me out of it, see if they could plan something else, a walk to Amy’s Ice Cream or something. He ended up bcc’ing me on all my birthday planning emails. I saw everything, his email saying “Kristin doesn’t want the fake surprise thing” to their responses “of course she does, let’s get chocolate!”, it was a freaking riot. He even gave me my own card so I could sign it while they were passing it around. “Here’s your card, it’s funny right? Go ahead and sign it, then I’ll give it to everyone else.”

So, thanks, friends. You sure make me happy and make my birthday a buncha times better.
