Welcome to the Zoo
Did I forget to mention that we decided to adopt Buster? That’s right! He’s an official member of the zoo now.
After going back and forth the entire trial week… yes, then no, then absolutely yes, then definitely no, we finally made a pro/con list. The pro list had everything we wanted in a dog, ‘energetic’, ‘friendly with people’, ‘perfect size’, etc.. The cons seemed a little silly when we saw them all together in a list, they were things like ‘doesn’t come when called’, ‘chases the cats’ and ‘chews things.’ All very trainable things, and Jef pointed out, all things Lucy did as a puppy. Remember this?
Speaking of Lucy, she is having a great time. They get along really well and are wearing eachother out, which was #1 on our pro list. She is also far less submissive than I thought she’d be. She is actually stepping up as alpha dog in the pack and I’m a little proud of that. She isn’t aggressive or anything, just confident. Something I didn’t expect.
It will take some time to adjust, we start training in a few weeks and that will help. Him and us. In the meantime, we’re enjoying the new face and remembering what it’s like to live in a puppy proofed house.
