New Ride
I just bought a new car. :)
I’m excited, but we were at the dealership for HOURS (like 5) and all that waiting and negotiating kind of killed the mood. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to post pictures and act properly goofy about it all.
Chrysanthemum told me how sad she was when she got rid of her VW Rabbit, even though it had been years since it ran. It wasn’t until I was cleaning out my Civic and realizing we were going to leave it there that it hit me. I’ve had this car since it was new in ‘99 and now no more li’l Honda. No more tracing that “H” on the steering wheel as encouragement to help it climb aggressive hills. No more saying “Sorry, I can’t drive, I have a teeny Civic.”
The upside is that I have a car that has basic features that everyone but me has had since … oh, forever. Things like power windows, keyless entry, cruise control and automatic transmission (I’m reluctant about that last one, I’ve driven a stick my whole life). But I have to say the best feature is the small SUV size. It’s not TOO big but at least now we’ll be able to go to Ikea and buy things w/out having to borrow a car or unpack all the boxes in the parking lot to make them fit.

Girl, I’m so excited for you. I totally get the giving up the Honda. I have had 3 Hondas and believe me the last one was the hardest by far.
I also understand the reluctancy of an automatic. I’ve been driving for going on *gasp* 25 years and I’ve never owned an automatic. I hate it when I have to drive rentals because I’m constantly “shifting” the brake.
So, I have to ask. Do I get an inaugural ride this week, pretty please?
Congrats again. You so deserve it.

I don’t know how I feel about this. “Greener” options could have been chosen here. Pretty sure that the Civic had a smaller “carbon footprint.” Are you no longer a hippie? I’m getting Albert Gore on the horn about this.

Well, Josh… The civic DID have a small carbon footprint, but I wanted a wee bit more cargo room. I will tell you that my FIRST choice was the Ford Escape Hybrid. I loved the way it looked, loved that it was a hybrid, didn’t love the price, but a local dealer had a 2005 for a good price. Then I test drove it and was very, very disappointed. Besides the tool of a salesman, the vehicle itself was really uncomfortable to drive. After another round of research, I settled on a Hyundai. I *would* have gone w/ the Honda CRV except they went all rounded-like-a-mini-van w/ the look since 2007 and I just can’t do that.
I’m still a hippie at heart…
