Jef and I stayed in Austin this year for Thanksgiving. Until a few days ago I wasn’t mentally prepared for the holiday season. I went to the store, bought the usual ‘fixins’, but it’s hard to get in the mood for turkey and stuffing when it’s 82 degrees outside.

Well, low and behold we got a cold front! It’s currently 45 degrees outside! 45!

I realize that’s t-shirt weather for my family in Wyoming (where it’s 20 degrees), but actually a bit colder than my cohorts in Connecticut where it’s a balmy 62.

We spent the day with other Thanksgiving ‘orphans’ at my friend, Mary’s. It was really, really nice. The food was great and I love experiencing other people’s traditions. I made stuffing (my mom’s recipe courtesy of Betty Crocker) and a butternut squash soup that I made sans recipe. The latter turned out gooood and damned if I didn’t leave the leftovers behind. I added so many ingredients to make it ‘just so’, I’m not even sure I could recreate it, but I’m definitely going to try. Last I checked I had 13+ ingredients.

The whole day leaves me feeling appropriately thankful. I hope yours did too.
