Shorty.

What's up, buttercup?

Almost two years ago, a woman I work with found a litter of kittens outside her apartment. One of them somehow found it's way to my desk, and then to my car, and then home with me. What! How did that happen?! We called her Shorty cuz she was so tiny and short when she sat on my desk that first day, there was no other name to call her. She was not a quiet, laid back cat. In fact, she reminded us so much of Slinky I wrote a post about nature vs. nuture. Did I pick a kitten who would be just like him? Or was she just growing into what I needed her to be? Either way, she was entertaining. We grumbled about her quirks, but she settled into our home and we loved her to bits. It's with a heavy heart that I tell you Shorty passed away on Jan 5, 2009. She got out of the house w/out us knowing and we despite an exhaustive search we didn't find her in time. We aren't sure the cause, maybe the cold, or maybe she got into something she shouldn't have, but she when we found her, she had passed. Jef and I are doing OK, but we're very sad. We wish she hadn't gotten out. We wish she'd had on a better collar. We wish we'd looked in the one spot where she was hiding. Most of all, we wish none of this ever happened. Like anything, I know it will just take time. We'll heal and come to realize that we did everything we could. She wasn't with us long, but she made quite an impact. If there is a kitty heaven, we hope she's there tearin' it up.
