Winter Vegetables

Post a Comment | The summer vegetables are long gone from our garden, but we have a small 'winter' harvest. We don't really have a winter in Austin, it's more like autumn, so we're fortunate to have a year-round growing season. If we have a freeze, we can cover the garden, and even if something is lost, it's easy to replant.
I've learned so much this first year! I can't WAIT until summer! Until then, here's where we are w/ the winter 'crop'.
Broccoli! This is what I'm MOST excited about. It's a long harvest, and after a long few months, we finally have a little bud!

Onions! These also have a long harvest (~110 days). I keep expecting something to happen, but so far, the green stalks just get a little bigger. If all goes well, they should mature in the next 30 days.

The Romaine Lettuce didn't make it. (I suppose it wold have done better if I'd remembered to cover it during the last freeze.)

The red lettuce made it through the freeze. It's like a game of vegetable Survivor out here!
